Scorpions!

We've had our first scorpion sighting in the house! Jonathan found it next to the kitchen sink drain just yesterday. My first reaction was that it seemed too small to really be that painful. Jonathan's reaction? Similar to me when I encounter snakes. NOT a fan. We aren't too worried, but we are cautious enough to check our beds (i.e. sleeping bags, at the moment) for them before we crawl in for the night, and we check our shoes before putting them on. To quote the Peace Corps Health Handbook, "... they bite only if disturbed or threatened," and "they inject their venom only in 20% of stings." Here's a picture of our little "friend" :

Here's another scorpion Jonathan found at our new neighbor, Rachid's, house:

  1. Oh my gosh!!!! The one in the sink didn't look so bad, but the one next to your foot looks horrible! Much bigger than our little S.C. bee sting kind! YIKES....I'm with Jon on this one!
